Owner Information: The right ingredients

Tasha Ross

I was born and raised in Northern California and moved to Nashville in August of 2006 to attend graduate school at the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management. After school, I spent some time in consulting for Deloitte which accelerated my interest into the world of startups. I did a short stint with a software technology startup and realized that a business of my own would be much more rewarding. I was introduced to Lindsay, and FiddleCakes soon followed.

Did you always want to be a baker?

Well, I'm actually not a baker. I mostly run the business side of things, which includes marketing, sales, accounting, strategy, and finance. Basically, I plan our ads in the Scene, manage our Twitter account, pay the bills, and salt the parking lot when we get snow. I may do a bit more, but that gives you the general gist.

So, what do you want to be when you grow up?

Who said anything about growing up? Either way, I'm pretty happy with what I am doing now, but know that at some point I'll want to start another business or try something new. No plans in the near future since I really want to see what we can do with FiddleCakes.

Favorite Part of owning a bakery?

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies…hands down!

Biggest baking blunder

There always seems to be something that we are laughing about. The story that comes to my mind happened before we ever even opened the first location and while I was the only one around. I was "attempting" to replace the water filters. I turned the water valve off and untwisted the first filter, but apparently there was built up pressure because I ended up being sprayed with water. Unfortunately, that was only the first filter.

You must love food. What's your favorite meal?

I do love food and there isn't much food that I don't love. I would have to go with BBQ or Mexican, but real Mexican food. I am from California, after all.

Favorite places to eat around town?

I may actually eat at the Smiling Elephant once a week and can't say enough great things about this place. It is incredible! I am also a huge fan of Sushi Yobi, Firefly, Café Marche, Mambu, and Rumba.

What else do you enjoy doing in Nashville?

There is so much to do in this city and when the weather is nice, you can be sure that I am outside. I enjoy renting pontoon boats in the summer with friends, hiking Radnor, catching live music at any of the incredible venues around town, and heading out to Arrington vineyards for a relaxing day of wine tasting and music. I love dancing at The Stage, and of course, playing cards on my patio when the weather is nice!

Where else might we see you around town?

I can generally be found at Nashville Chamber events, Owen and/or Vandy Alum events, and the Melrose Neighborhood Pub on Thursday evenings. It is Nashville after all and there is always something going on… from the numerous charity events to Hands On Nashville Day to celebrations with friends. The best thing about this city, is not if you will run into someone you know, but how many people you will run into. I'll see you around.
